Blurb

Destiny calls. Soulmates draw closer. One woman stands in the way.
Beth trusts her psychic senses. So when her birthday visit to a daytime TV talk show takes a weird turn, she knows something is wrong. Amelia, the celebrity on stage, is oddly fixated on Beth and the man with the microphone is hauntingly familiar. Things become even stranger when she buys a tarot deck, and they are all pictured in the cards.
Jonan has waited an eternity to be with the woman who haunts his dreams. When he finally sees her at the TV studio, he hopes life with his soulmate is within reach. But as Amelia refuses to let go of their past together, his hopes fade.
Amelia stands between Beth and Jonan. Spinning tales of supernatural threats to her adoring fan base, she builds a personality cult through fear of the paranormal. As her power grows, she does her best to scare Beth away from Jonan and plans to reclaim him for herself.
United by a destiny that spans lifetimes, Beth and Jonan are determined to stop Amelia’s fear-mongering. But Amelia has more than one card to play. Even though they are fated to be together, Amelia’s destructive nature may once again tear them apart...

Review

Until lately I have said I prefer romance to be a subplot more than anything but I have found some real eye-opening and well written romances over the past couple of years that have made me broaden my horizons. The Starfolk Arcana at it’s heart is a soul mates romance. Now as someone who does enjoy werewolves (stay with me here it will make sense) so the idea of fated mates sometimes pops up in that media. When done correctly I love it. This soulmates novel is a bit like that and perfectly executed.

What is more the first book in the Starfolk trilogy as a good deal of paranormal and spiritualism that I loved. As someone who loves fantasy and paranormal and classes themselves have spiritual Dunlop evokes a believable and wonderful setting.  I want to also say that while above I mentioned the idea of romance and fated soul mates this there are so many elements that it is not just ‘pure’ romance which really appeals to me.

There are numerous twists and turns as well as characters you are never fully sure what is going on. If you are drawn in by the gorgeous cover you will stay for the captivating and entertaining story. Beth and Jonan are perfect, as characters and in their growing relationships. Amelia is, despite her being the ‘bad guy’ after a fashion also brilliantly written and put together. Dunlop captures the idea of how some people can speak, potentially absolute rubbish, but still get people on their side and to believe them which I really liked as well.

Do be warned it ends on a little bit of a cliff hanger but since it is the first in a trilogy I would expect that. If you enjoy novels with a lot paranormal and fantasy, good plot with twists and turns and interesting characters this is for you. Perfect for fans of the Lost Gods Series.
